Fostering Sustainable Communities: IIT Hyderabad and Plaksha University Collaborate on Smart City Research

IIT Hyderabad and Plaksha University are joining forces to establish a Sustainability Center aimed at devising innovative strategies for fostering vibrant and sustainable communities. Leveraging the resources of IIT Hyderabad’s Smart City Living Lab and Plaksha’s expertise in energy and environment, the partnership will focus on research-driven solutions tailored to the needs of smart communities.

IIT Hyderabad, known for its specialization in IT, electronics, and communications technologies, brings a wealth of expertise in areas such as VLSI, robotics, and wireless communications. Plaksha University, an interdisciplinary hub with global partnerships, including UC Berkeley and Purdue, complements IITH’s strengths with its focus on sustainability and environmental initiatives.

Interdisciplinary Research for Smart Communities: The Sustainability Center’s Collaborative Approach

The Sustainability Center will prioritize research initiatives targeting villages and towns, particularly those at the bottom of the economic pyramid. Collaborative efforts will span various technological domains, including sensors, ML models, communication/5G, online twins, as well as economic and social sciences.

Key areas of focus encompass environmental sustainability, encompassing air and water quality, energy efficiency, waste management, and sustainable agriculture. The immediate goal involves launching projects in Hyderabad and Chandigarh, addressing challenges related to water management, pollution, and agricultural economics.

Professor P. J. Narayanan, Director of IIT Hyderabad, expresses enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the shared commitment to impactful research and community engagement. Similarly, Professor Rudra Pratap, founding vice president of Plaksha University, underscores the partnership’s role in leveraging technology to address pressing societal challenges and promote equitable and sustainable development.

Fostering Sustainable Communities: The Collaborative Endeavor of IIT Hyderabad and Plaksha University’s Sustainability Center

In order to create novel strategies that promote the creation of bright communities, IIT Hyderabad and Plaksha University are establishing a Sustainability Center. By utilizing IITH’s Smart City Living Lab and Plaksha’s energy and environment initiatives, the partnership will concentrate on research led cultural solutions for clever communities.

An independent research university called IIT Deccan concentrates on IT, electronics, and communications technologies. It has a strong focus on VLSI and embedded systems, robotics, physical and human language technologies and wireless communications. Plashka University is an integrative centre with partnerships with UC Berkeley, Purdue, UC San Diego.

The Sustainability Center’s research will mainly concentrate on use cases involving villages and towns near the bottom of the pyramid. IITH and Plaksha University will jointly work on technologies suitable to sustainable communities including sensors, ML models, communication/5G, online twins, economics, social/human sciences.

It will also take up problems in functional domains like air/pollution, water ( networks, wtp, stp, rain ), energy ( smart meters, distribution, grids, storage ), waste management ( solid water and otherwise ), food/agriculture ( sustainably produce, process, consume ), health ( preventive and public health and mental health ).

Launching Sustainable Initiatives: Collaboration for Green Communities in Hyderabad and Chandigarh

The quick, short-term goal is to start projects in Hyderabad and Chandigarh that are concerned with water, pollution, and agri-economics.

The Director of IITH, Professor P. J. Narayanan, stated,” IITH is excited to collaborate with Plaksha University on joint research projects spanning sustainability and the creation of green communities. Since both our institutions largely share administrative frameworks and social goals, this creative centre will work on powerful research, educational programmes, and community involvement, leveraging our combined strengths”.

In this era of rapid industrial advancement, our collaboration with IIT Hyderabad marks a crucial step in our effort to foster green communities, according to Professor Rudra Pratap, founding vice president of Plaksha University. We aspire to harness cutting-edge technologies to address the pressing issues that communities at the bottom of the arch face, ensuring a brighter and more equal future for all through the joint efforts of Plaksha University and IITH.
