The Energy Secretary chaired the second Energy Mission Board, reaffirming his commitment to making Britain a clean energy superpower by promoting British fresh energy. With goals to deliver fresh power by 2030, Ed Miliband gathered ministers from all government levels to maintain focus on the Clean Energy Superpower mission. This mission includes accelerating towards net zero, enhancing energy independence, protecting consumers, and supporting jobs nationwide. The Energy Mission Board plays a vital role in advancing plans to secure energy independence by increasing locally produced, clean energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Miliband’s recent efforts include lifting the onshore wind ban, initiating solar power production, and launching a significant partnership with The Crown Estate through Great British Energy. The record £1.5 billion budget for the renewables auction further supports fresh clean energy projects. The Onshore Wind Taskforce, led by EDF Renewables‘ CEO Matthieu Hue, aims to remove barriers to inland wind capacity growth, highlighting onshore wind’s cost-effectiveness. The launch of Mission Control, headed by climate expert Chris Stark, underscores the government’s dedication to decarbonising Britain’s power system by 2030. This initiative complements the Mission Board’s focus on transitioning to clean, domestic power, boosting energy independence, and driving economic growth with well-paid jobs across the country.

The Energy Secretary chaired the second Energy Mission Board yesterday, continuing his effort to make Britain a clean energy superpower by advocating for domestic, British-based fresh energy.

Based on the twin goals of delivering fresh power by 2030, Ed Miliband convened ministers from all levels of government to ensure a continuous focus on the Clean Energy Superpower mission.

The mission also includes accelerating towards net zero, boosting energy independence, protecting consumers, and supporting jobs across the country.

The Energy Mission Board’s role in making Britain a superpower in fresh energy

He emphasised the new forum’s important role in advancing ambitious, long-term plans to tackle the country’s challenges and secure its energy independence.

He will collaborate attentively with colleagues to quickly expand the use of locally produced, clean energy and reduce dependence on volatile fossil fuels, which are essential for defending taxpayers, creating good, well-paid jobs, and addressing the climate and nature crisis.

The Energy Secretary’s second meeting comes right away from the Energy Secretary’s initial recommendations to lift the onshore wind ban, start solar power production, and officially launch Great British Energy’s big partnership with The Crown Estate.

He has also confirmed the biggest-ever budget for this year’s renewables auction, which is over £1.5 billion, to further support the development of fresh clean energy projects.

The best way to boost our energy security and safeguard billpayers completely is to accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to domestic energy, according to Energy Security and Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband, making Britain a clean energy superpower.

“As we move forward, our Mission Board will keep a laser focus across government on delivering fresh, cheap energy to homes and businesses, driving economic growth, and creating experienced jobs across the country”.

The mission will require a significant amount of onshore wind.

The fresh Onshore Wind Taskforce even convened for the first time today. The Taskforce, led by Matthieu Hue, the Energy Secretary and CEO of EDF Renewables, will spearhead action across government and industry to remove obstacles to rapid growth in inland wind capacity.

This comes as this year’s renewables auction will see £185m made available for formed technologies, including onshore wind and solar, an uplift of £65m.

“Onshore wind is already one of the most cost-effective forms of fresh electricity generation in the UK,” said Matthieu Hue, CEO of EDF Renewables UK.” It has a vital role in our country.

The taskforce is aimed at finding practical solutions to overcome obstacles in order to accelerate our journey to net zero by bringing industry and government jointly. But let’s get to work”.

This also follows the launch of the department’s Mission Control – headed up by climate skilled Chris Stark – to turbocharge the government’s mission to decarbonise Britain’s power system by 2030.

Complementing the Mission Board, this will be focused on accelerating the transition away from dangerous fossil fuel markets to clean, homemade power by 2030 – boosting Britain’s energy independence.
