The secure cycle parking can be accessed via the Cyclehoop app, which is free to download from the App Store and Google Play. This application enables users to locate available spaces, manage their credit, and reserve a spot in any of the hubs. Currently, there are 20 hubs scattered across the city, offering a total of 116 parking spaces for cycles. The pricing structure is time-based, starting from 15p for a duration of up to 30 minutes, and capping at £5 (approximately USD$6) for a maximum of 24 hours.

Located at street level for easy access, the hubs are strategically positioned on the roads in line with the Scottish Government’s Designing Streets policy. In instances where placement on the road isn’t feasible, the hubs are situated on pathways, ensuring they do not obstruct pedestrian or cyclist traffic.
Councilor Angus Millar highlighted the role of these new city center cycle parking units in facilitating access to the city for work, study, and leisure purposes by offering secure and rentable storage solutions. He emphasized that these units complement the broader initiative of installing secure on-street cycle storage across Glasgow’s residential areas, which has received widespread approval. Millar expressed confidence in the success of these short-stay units within the city center, enhancing Glasgow’s cycling infrastructure.
The funding for the Avenues Plus project is sourced from the Places for Everyone program, a venture focused on developing active travel infrastructure. This program is supported by the Scottish Government and managed by Sustrans Scotland.
Katherine Soane, a grant manager for Sustrans, shared her optimism about the project’s impact, stating that the provision of convenient, accessible bike storage locations throughout Glasgow’s city center is expected to create unprecedented opportunities for cycling as a daily mode of transportation.
